Reception & Box-Office

  • Box office :
    • Day 1’s net domestic: Rs52.5 crore–just shy of the opening of the precursor ( War(2019)). An impressive pan-Indian performance, even though it is in the wake of that of Rajinikanth’s Coolie.
    • By the afternoon of Day 2 The collection rate increased–reports suggest between Rs60 and 85 crores in two days. Expectations are to exceed Rs100 crore over this Independence Day holiday.

Fans were euphoric from early matinee screenings, to viral moments like a fan using a flamethrower in the theater, causing security concerns. Promotions did not go without controversy, with Jr NTR’s unapologetic “Be silent while I’m talking” response to a fan during the event before release that sparked mixed reactions.

The Verdict

War 2 is unquestionably a star-studded, high-budget spectacle, YRF’s most daring spy thriller to date. The global scale of production along with its elite cast and its cross-regional appeal make it as a benchmark within Indian cinema. But, despite its initial success at the box office however, the critical stance towards its narrative style and predictable plot could affect its lasting legacy.
